Alex Sasha Toporovsky was born in the city of Lviv, Ukraine in 1971. At the time, Ukraine was a division of Russia. His immediate family members, who were trained in representational painting and sculpture, enveloped him in their creative practices from the beginning.

In 1976, Toporovsky’s family fled communism and immigrated to the United States, settling in Chicago, Illinois when he was only five years old. Upon relocating to California in 1985, he pursued a visual arts education and received a Bachelor of Fine Art from Grossmont College.

As a budding creative, one of his forays into the arts industry was with the world renowned Old Globe Theater. The Globe is where Toporovsky gained skills he uses today as an abstract painter. In 2003, he launched his own decorative arts company, Art 2 Walls, specializing in murals.

His work can be found in collections around the world, including the William J. Clinton Presidential Museum and Library permanent collection and the private collections of John and Emily Nogawski, Ron and Barbara Gladnick, and Charles Baum.

From Santa Cruz to Arcata, Toporovsky has lived throughout California, using these experiences to visually inform his uniquely West Coast works. He has a true knack for displaying the sublime waters, colors, people and landscapes found there. He continues to live and work in San Diego, California.
